As someone who enjoys make-up as much as I do, I think that it may be surprising to some when they learn that I was never a primer fan. Often times, I felt like it was totally unnecessary but looking back on it now, I think that I was just using primers that didn't suit me very well. Years ago, I tried a cult favorite primer (not naming any names) that was totally underwhelming and grouped all primers into the 'might be nice but not a necessity' category when thinking about my daily make-up routine. About a year ago, I moved to Phoenix and the climate was very different than what I was used to and noticed that my foundation was starting to wear off in places it hadn't before. That being said, I tried several primers since then and needless to say, I am a primer convert now. Today I am sharing some of my favorites with you!
I think I should start off by saying that I've found that I love primers that help with making my skin look fresh and I love anything that'll help brighten up the skin. Too Faced's Hangover RX is an ultra-hydrating primer that really creates a great canvas for foundation, no matter if I'm going for a powder foundation or a liquid. By the end of the day, my t-zone still gets a bit oily when using this, but I find that I love how my foundation sits on top of this primer as a base rather than something that'll make my make-up stay in place all day.
Since I love the bright, fresh-faced glow when doing my make-up, I'm surprised that it took me so long to try the BECCA Backlight Filter Face Primer, as it seems like I've seen so many people rave about this product. Upon the first application, I was really nervous; the primer seemed very dewy and shiny, just like their highlighters that I absolutely love. However, when I go over my foundation with this primer, my skin looks so bright and glowy that I have gotten compliments from several people that my skin looked amazing and I totally agree. While this is a very new addition to my collection, I'm totally obsessed. Plus, my make-up doesn't wear off. Love! I also really enjoy the Make Up Forever Skin Equalizer Primer in Pink. Because of the way this particular primer is tinted, it adds a bit of radiance to the skin and I love the way it looks under foundation. Just like the BECCA primer, I find that my make-up really stays put when I use this foundation, plus my skin looks radiant.
Finally, I don't think that I could properly write a post all about primers without mentioning a setting spray. I've tried a handful of these but the one I swear by is the fan-favorite Urban Decay De-Slick Makeup Setting Spray. I've repurchased this product a couple of times now and as of right now, I don't plan on making the switch to another setting spray anytime soon. I use this every single day and on those nights that I am going out, because I know that my make-up will look amazing after I use this. Seriously, try it.
I'd love to hear your favorite primers, now that I've been using them religiously! Contact me on any of my social media accounts with your recommendations!
xx Mary
