I really don't know what it is about eyeshadow that totally suckers me in but it does, and I just can't escape. On most days I don't even do fancy eyeshadow in the form of a transition color, a crease color, an outer corner, blah blah blah. I often find myself just doing a light wash of color on a daily basis but if I am going out or want something with a bit more dimension, I'll definitely spend more time on my eyeshadow. Over the years, I have found some staples that I find myself always reaching for, and I'm excited to share them with you!
When I first got into makeup in high school, MAC eyeshadows were a staple in my beginner's collection. While I've purged quite a few of them, I've saved two that I particularly love for different reasons. Quarry is a really versatile color that I absolutely love because I can use a fluffy blush to blend all over the lid for a bit of dimension (see: laziness in full effect) or I can work it into the crease as a nice transition color. Since it's matte, I find that it adds a bit more depth to any look without drawing too much attention. On the opposite end of 'subtle', I'm a big fan of Amber Lights. Now, this isn't matte and it's definitely not an every day shadow, but I always reach for this when I'm feeling a bit fancy. I love lining my lower lashline with this stuff for a bit of shimmer and the fact that it's warm-toned makes it better, as I find that it suits my complexion and eye color. I especially love using this with winged liner on top and popping a bit of this on the inner half of my lower lash line!
Palettes are something that I've definitely come to value as well. I don't travel often but I really love the convenience of being able to create different looks with one little palette. The Urban Decay Naked2 Basics is definitely one that I really love because the colors are all matte and they all work really well together. I usually use this palette on an every day basis just because it's so versatile. Another palette that I use really frequently is the Tarte Tartelette In Bloom palette - it's a combination of shimmers and mattes that are, for the most part, warm in tone (again, something I love). I find myself using a lot of the colors in the palette for a variety of different reasons; Flower Child is great for right under the brow bone, while Smarty Pants is a fantastic transition color, and Rebel is uber pretty on the outer corner. All in all, if you prefer warm toned shadows, I would recommend this one for sure!
I don't buy eyeshadow often now anymore because of the eyeshadows I already own, and it's really rare for me to get excited over eyeshadow. However, these products are a true ride or die and I love them each!
What are your favorite eyeshadows or eyeshadow palettes? I'd love to know!
xx Mary
