Ride or Die: Foundation

I'll be the first to admit that I may have somewhat of a makeup obsession. Anyone that knows me can probably vouch for it, too. I am by no means a professional when it comes to makeup and beauty, but I can honestly say that it's something that I enjoy doing and it's even better when others let me do their makeup. As a longtime YouTube and beauty blog fanatic, I'm sure that following those who actually know what they're doing in the beauty world had something to do with how much I enjoy makeup and now it's come full circle. I'm sharing with you my makeup ride or die: foundation edition.

Foundation is definitely one of my weaknesses and I'm constantly going through phases of what I like in a foundation. Sometimes it's a heavier coverage, other times it's a matte finish, sometimes I just want something to even out my skin tone without doing anything fancy. Because of the way the foundation I wear changes on my mood, I usually rotate foundations, though these are the four that I always seem to go back to.

Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua  - Tarte Amazonian Clay Full Coverage Air Brush Foundation
These foundations are totally on opposite sides of the spectrum, let's just get that out there, but they both are really amazing at what they do, because they cater to exactly what I want.

The Chanel foundation is a water-based foundation that I'm sure everyone has heard about at this point. However, this stuff really is amazing. It provides a light-medium coverage that evens out my skin tone completely while some imperfections peek through - something that I've learned to enjoy for an every day foundation. On top of that, you're instantly glowing when you put this on. Only downside for me with this particular foundation is that it wears off by the end of the day on my nose, where I get oily, but the rest of my face looks pretty good.

The Tarte foundation was something that was almost too good to be true when I first saw it. I tried Bare Minerals a few years ago and while I loved the idea of buffing a powder into the skin, I didn't love the results from Bare Minerals and it made me break out. I was a bit skeptical when I saw the Tarte powder foundation but I gave it a whirl and absolutely love it. It's so easy to apply and looks flawless, plus it lasts all day on my skin. Coverage is amazing, which really surprised me for being a powder. FYI: Tarte makes a special brush to go specifically with this powder and while I thought it was a bit gimmicky at first, I actually haven't found a brush I like more than the one that is supposed to go with it. I think application is key to make this product work, so make sure you have a good brush for it.

Smashbox Studio Skin Foundation - Too Faced Born This Way Foundation

While the Chanel and Tarte foundations were very different, I think that these two are a bit more similar in the sense that they're both liquid foundations and my favorite way to apply is is the same for both: with a damp Beauty Blender (or the Real Techniques dupe - which is awesome). The Smashbox foundation claims to last for 15 hours and doesn't contain any SPF, which is perfect if you're taking photos with a flash - you won't get that white cast on your face. Coverage is really great on this foundation too but be warned: many will claim this is a full coverage foundation but I think it leans more on the medium coverage side. In addition, I don't find that it wears as well as I anticipated. It'll usually last a good eight hours while I'm at work, but at the end of the day, it wears off on my nose much like the Chanel foundation does, even with a primer and setting spray.

Born This Way was definitely something that I gave into because of the hype but out of all foundations in my Ride or Die, I'm going to say that this is my favorite. I love the coverage I get out of this and it's so easy to work with that I don't have to overly stress about blending, because it does it so nicely. This matches my skin perfectly now that I'm a bit more tan (thank you, Phoenix!) and since the foundation comes in 18 shades, I think that finding a match for many people will be a piece of cake. This lasts the best on my skin and I really enjoy the way it sits on the skin as well. Each time I haven't used this in a while and I reach for it again, I always wonder why I stopped using it. It's awesome!

What foundation (or foundations) are on your Ride or Die list?
